KUALA LUMPUR: The passing mark in public examinations differs from one subject to another as each subject has different full marks, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday.

However, Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the boundary marks for all the examinations were classified as stipulated under the Examination and Assessment Regulations in the Education Act 1996.

“To ensure that the assessments are valid and reliable, the Education Ministry through the Examination Board will always adhere to the relevant theories concerning marking and assessment,” he said in a written reply to Wee Choo Keong (IND-Wangsa Maju) in the Dewan Rakyat.

Wee had wanted to know the minimum mark for a pass and the mark to secure Grade A in every subject in the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.

Muhyiddin said the Examination Board also implemented quality assurance, levelling, bench-marking and recognition with leading international assessor bodies like Cambridge International Examination, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, New Zealand Qualifications Authority, and Australian Council for Educational Research. — Bernama
