SIBU: A senior citizen was cheated of her gold jewellery when she fell for a welfare aid application scam last week.
The woman in her 60s said she was approached by three strangers, including a woman, at the Sibu Central Market.
She was initially asked whether she had applied for the welfare aid.
When she replied in the negative, they offered to help with her application.
The trio brought her to a shop to take a photograph, which was supposedly for the application.
They told her to take off her gold jewellery to improve her chances of getting the aid.
Without suspecting anything amiss, the victim did as she was told and passed her valuables to the trio.
After she had her photo taken, the woman came out of the shop to discover that all three con artists had disappeared.
