ALOR SETAR: A woman was viciously hacked to death with a machete and her stepdaughter critical hurt by an assailant known to them, at Taman Saga here about 12.30am yesterday morning.

Ung Siew Lin, 46, succumbed to severe injuries to her head, stomach and arms and died at the car porch of her house.

Kedah Criminal Investigations Department chief Asst Commissioner Mohd Zakaria Ahmad said Ung’s stepdaughter Chn’g Sheve Mei, 26, was in critical condition with head injuries at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital intensive care unit.

He said the 54-year-old suspect was believed to have driven over and crashed into the front portion of the victims’ house.

It is understood that Ung, who was separated from her husband, lived there with her three biological daughters and Chn’g.

Mohd Zakaria said the suspect then set fire to Ung’s Myvi which was parked at the porch before he proceeded to attack the four women in the house.

“Ung who was severely injured was managed to be saved by members of the public but was pronounced dead enroute to the hospital,” he said when contacted here yesterday.

Her three daughters were only slightly injured and received outpatient treatment at the same hospital, he added.

“The motive is believed to be family problems as the suspect was said to have frequented the victims’ house since she separated three years ago.

“The suspect was arrested with the help of neighbours and the case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence, upon conviction,” he said.

Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Chor Chee Heung, who sympathised with the victims, visited Chn’g at the hospital this afternoon. — Bernama
