BAU: Several new sub-modules will be introduced in the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) including the study of the Lahad Datu crisis.

According to National Service Training Council chairman Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe, such modules would help strengthen the patriotic spirit of trainees and ensure that they understand the important roles of the police and army.

“We will also be compiling an educational video which depicts our forces in Lahad Datu,” said Dr Tiki who officiated at the closing ceremony of the first PLKN batch at Puncak Permai camp, Bau yesterday.

Speaking to 423 trainees who graduated, Dr Tiki also said that the peace and safety of the country should not be taken for granted and was a shared responsibility of everyone.

Dr Tiki who is also Mas Gading MP, added that the council was constantly reviewing the sub-modules within PLKN to make sure they remain relevant and updated.

He also said that besides current issues, other sub-modules which will be introduced next year will be on education, health and religion.

The PLKN modules taught within the three months of camp are tailored to suit Malaysians who are of different backgrounds, races and religions, Dr Tiki added.

“This would create a sense of belonging, harmony and unity among the trainees,” stated Dr Tiki.

Meanwhile, Dr Tiki also encouraged all PLKN graduates to enrol themselves as members of the National Service Voluntary Brigade (BSKN) online or via the designated camps.

“This brigade will act as re-enforcements and assist victims during natural disasters such as floods and landslides,” said Dr Tiki.

He also said that the knowledge and experience gained by PLKN graduates are equivalent to those of other uniform bodies such as Rela, JPAM and Askar Wataniah.

Taking home the award for the PLKN Puncak Permai overall best trainee was Abdul Rahman Hussen from Kuching who represented Delta company.

Yesterday also saw the closing of all the 81 PLKN camps across the nation with a total of 33,000 graduates.
