STF sending two for Asia Taekwondo meet

SIBU: Sarawak Taekwondo Federation (STF) are sending two exponents to the 2nd Asia Zone Taekwondo Self Defence Championship which will be held in Guangzhou, China from Aug 10-13.

Wong Tiong Yung, 18, and Lucas Chieng Tiew Lik, 16, of SMK Sacred Heart are gunning for titles in the senior and junior poomsae category.

The two represented STF in the 1st Penang Taekwondo Poomsae Championship in Penang earlier this year and both had returned with gold medals.

Team manager-cum-head coach Michael Wong said the China stint would be tough as top poomsae exponents from throughout Asian are joining in.

Among Asian countries expected at the event are China, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia. Senior international referee Pang Ming Sing will be accompanying the two for the championship.

They received their team colours from Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday morning.
