KUCHING: Kuching City North (DBKU) Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai was happy to see an enthusiastic crowd at the Imagine Retrowalk event organised by 1BFF Club at Plaza Merdeka yesterday.

A group of students from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Borneo Campus (Lim Kok Wing Borneo) had earlier staged an outstanding flash mob presentation.
“I am really happy to see a large crowd of people with great spirit gathered here to celebrate Malaysia Day. This is what DBKU is working towards, building a lively and vibrant city that is clean, beautiful and safe,” Abang Abdul Wahap said.
He invited the flash mob performers to stage the biggest flash mob for Kuching City Day next year.
Retrowalk organising chairwoman Winnie Sim said Imagine Retrowalk was an attempt to break the Guiness World Record for walking backwards for 1km.
“The first record for retrowalk was made in China with 1,039 participants in 2012, and India broke this record on Aug 15 this year with 1,207 participants,” she said.
“We are excited that we are going to be a Guiness World Record holder on Oct 11 this year.
“It’s a dream come true,” she added.
Besides the World Record breaking attempt, the event will also raise funds for five charitable bodies: Sarawak Autistic Association, Hope Place, Sarawak Cancer Association, Habitat for Humanity, and Peryatim.
Imagine Retrowalk is the main event ‘U Are The 1 Youth Carnival 2014’ to be held at the Padang Merdeka from Oct 6 to 12.
Sim appealed to Abdul Wahap for support by getting 150 DBKU staff to take part in the Retrowalk on Oct 11.
The event saw a prize presentation to winners of the Imagine Retrowalk lucky draw.
Also present were 1BFF Club president Keith Sim and ‘U Are The 1 Youth Carnival 2014’ organising chairperson Cilla Balla.
