SIBU: Police here yesterday detained four men from a moneylending company whom they suspected had intimidated a borrower.

Deputy Sibu police chief Superintendant Martin Koo said the incident happened on the morning of March 9 at the longhouse of the victim in Ulu Salim here.

He said the victim had borrowed about RM4,000 from the moneylender but failed to settle the debt.

“The suspects went to the longhouse on March 9 to look for the victim.

“Finding him outside the longhouse, the men allegedly tried to pull the victim into a car,” he told reporters yesterday.

Koo said the victim refused to follow them out as he feared for his safety.

“He managed to escape from the men and ran towards the longhouse and hid there.

“The victim lodged a police report on Tuesday,” Koo said.

Acting on the report, he said police called the men to the police station yesterday and detained them.

They have been placed under remand to facilitate police investigation under Section 29B (1) of Moneylenders Act 1951.
