KUCHING: A man who attempted to rob a restaurant cashier on Tuesday night got a taste of public justice after he failed to get away.
The incident took place at a restaurant at Jalan Sultan Tengah near here around 10pm, when the 29-year-old suspect along with another man – believed to be his accomplice – failed in their attempt to rob the cashier.
It was understood that the suspect managed to grab RM300 cash and threatened to hurt the cashier if he retaliated.
“However, co-workers at the premises realised the incident and tried to stop the suspect from running away.
“With the help from members of the public at the restaurant, the suspect was caught and given a sound beating which resulted in injuries on his face.
“The stolen RM300 was recovered and the suspect surrendered to the police for further action,” said a source.
Kuching district police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended and would be put under remand for seven days to assist police to catch the other suspect who is still free.
“Investigation revealed that the suspect had attempted the robbery with an accomplice who was waiting outside the premises before fleeing.
“The incident was caught on the close-circuit television (CCTV) and, investigation is ongoing to find out whether the suspect is also involved in other robbery cases,” Roslan said.
