MIRI: Users of social media are reminded to be more responsible and not pass on information from unknown sources.

Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis said he was very concerned about the negative side of the social media which has become popular particularly among youths.

“The people should know their limit and not abuse the social media to plant hatred and bring chaos to society,” he said at the opening of ‘Suhakam with the people’ programme at Mega Hotel here yesterday.

He said in today’s information technology (IT) era and the advancement of handphones, one could not stop the people from mastering Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

But most important, he added, was to continue to educate the people, particular students, to be smart Internet users.

On the programme, he welcomed Suhakam for organising it to provide clear information on the roles and functions of the commission.

Also present was Suhaka commissioner (Sarawak) Francis Johen Adam.

The half-day programme was attended by local community leaders and representative from various organisations.
