The two suspects are seen being taken to the police station to help in the probe.

SIBU: A businessman jogging at Sentosa Forest Reserve yesterday morning greeted a man ‘Good Morning’ as a gesture of goodwill, but ended up being beaten and robbed by the man and his partner.

The incident occurred at 9am after the businessman in his 60s had returned from traveling.

He was robbed of Singaporean and Malaysian currencies worth over RM10,000. He also suffered injuries on his arms and face in the incident.

The businessman, accompanied by his son, lodged a report shortly.

Acting on this information, the police launched a manhunt for the two robbers described as ‘a tall and a short man’, and arrested them in nine hours.

Sibu CID chief DSP Yeoh Chun Shyan confirmed the arrest last night, saying the victim had identified the duo.

He said the two men had records of drug abuse from urine tests before, and that the police would remand them for a probe into the armed robbery.

Yeoh feared other joggers might have been robbed and asked those who have fallen victims, if any, to lodge police reports too.

In the 9am robbery yesterday, the businessman told the police that he used to jog in the forest reserve daily. He used to go there at 8am but yesterday he went there an hour later.

After he greeted the robber, he said both had passed by each other on the plank walk.

The businessman shortly heard footsteps from behind. Thinking it was from another jogger, he did not look back.

The robber came with another man and hit him (businessman) from behind with a piece of wood. He turned back and was repeatedly attacked. The two robbers then took his wallet. He pleaded with them to just take the money but not the wallet.

One robber replied, “You want to die?”

The man kept silent as the robbers took his money and his wallet.

The police meanwhile sent the victim to the hospital for examination.
