SRI AMAN: Residents of Ulu Paku in Undup have been told that the contractor is the cause of the delay in extending the Rural Electricity Supply (RES) to the area.
According to Assistant Minister of Rural Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, the delay was not caused by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
The project was initially scheduled for completion in 2013.
Harden, who is also Simanggang assemblyman, said he was doing his best to get the electricity supply extended to the area.
Ten longhouses are involved in the RES project costing about RM12 million.
“I do understand that the people in this area have been waiting for so long for the electricity supply to come to the area. I will do my best to make sure that it would become a reality,” he said at an event held in Sebujuk yesterday.
During the event, he pledged RM5,000 to the village development and security (JKKK) and RM3,000 to its women’s bureau.
Officers from Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department, who were also present at the event, also donated five fire extinguishers to the village.
