KUCHING: United People’s Party (UPP) Padungan is ready to serve the people from its administration centre at Jalan Pending.
UPP Padungan Youth chief Yap Min Su said the branch, aided by both its Youth and Women’s wings, “is ready to render services to the local community not just in Padungan area but also beyond Padungan”.
The wings are expected to launch their inaugural community project during the upcoming installation ceremony as a means to foster closer ties with the people.
“UPP Padungan branch’s Youth and Wanita sections will jointly hold their installation night at Thian Court, Level 3 of Crown Square at Jalan Pending on Sept 29.
“At the installation, we want to introduce ourselves comprising committee members of Youth and Wanita to the local community. Besides, we will announce the first community programme, which is a karaoke competition,” Yap told a news conference on Thursday.
Yap, who is also UPP Central Youth secretary, said the singing contest aimed to engage with the local community as well as “understand the pulse of the community”.
The preliminary round of the contest is to take place in November while the final round will be held the following month.
“The organising committee would like to encourage members of the public to take part in this project,” he said.
Meanwhile, UPP Padungan Women’s chief Annie Ho called on the people to make full use of the party’s Multi-Million Education Fund, which was recently launched by Head of State
Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
“We invite the public to get the application form from either our branch office or UPP headquarters.
“The education fund is meant for all those who require financial assistance, from primary level to tertiary education,” she said.
Ho added that the first batch of recipients would be announced next month.
UPP president and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is expected to officiate at the installation night.
