LIMBANG: The spirit of patriotism was clearly seen when over 5,000 people in Limbang District converged last Wednesday night at the Dataran Jubli Emas and Limbang Town centre to celebrate Malaysia Day and the Neighbourhood Area Committees (KRT) Carnival.
Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail was present at the event where various activities were held, the highlight of which was a lantern procession participated by 34 KRT Units and associations in Limbang District.
There was also a float procession around Limbang town at night while Chinese cultural performances were held at Dataran Jubli Emas. During the day, activities included an exhibition and sales of KRT products, health screening, blood donation and competitions such as basketball, singing, colouring, flower arrangement and traditional cooking demonstrations. Pleased with the overwhelming response from the people, Dr Rahman announced in his speech a RM25,000 government grant to help finance the double celebrations.
“This is a happy occasion for all which transcends racial and political boundaries in upholding the traditional values, harmony and unity of the multi-racial society here. We should continue to nurture and value moments like this for a greater Malaysia,” he stressed.
District officer and Walikota Hamdiah Bakir along with Councillor Sufian Mohat, Limbang Division unity officer Mohd Fakri Asmad, Temenggong Ang Kheng Su and Limbang Town KRT chairman and organising chairman Ang Chiw Kiam were among those present.
