TAWAU: A 30-year-old Filipino man was sentenced to death by the High Court here yesterday for the murder of three people.
High Court judge Datuk Douglas Cristo Primus Sikayun meted out the sentence on Amin bin Hatai for the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence.
The illegal immigrant was charged over the death of Jaafar @ Sinuk bin Asmadul, 70, Ismail bin Jaafar, 50 and Salmiah binti Irin, 42, on January 22, 2012 between 5.30pm-6pm at an unnumbered workers’ quarters at Ladang Sawit Syarikat Kon Pau, Kalumpang, Semporna.
The accused was first charged on February 3, 2012 together with four others. Two of them were called for defence and only the accused was convicted with 19 witnesses called by the prosecution.
Deputy public prosecutor Azeezi Nordin prosecuted the case.
