MIRI: Persatuan Dayak Sarawak (Pedas) yesterday took Miri police chief ACP Junaidi Bujang to task for denying that his men who were beaten up by longhouse folk in Bekelit, Niah, on Monday had abused their power.

In urging Junaidi to withdraw his statement that was in the news yesterday, Pedas secretary Bill Kayong said he and several others shot a video at the scene that proved the policemen’s wrongdoings.

“We have the video as evidence. In the video, the policemen admitted they did point pistols at the longhouse folk. This runs contrary to the statement made by the police chief in the news today,” said Bill.

He claimed the longhouse folk, including the young men present, were also not drunk.

“There are other confessions made by them (policemen), and all are recorded in the video,” added Bill.

“We can give a copy of the video to the police to help in their investigation.”

On Monday, four policemen, two immigration officers and an oil palm estate assistant manager were attacked by over 30 people from three longhouses in Bekelit.

It is understood that the longhouse folk have a longstanding land dispute with the oil palm plantation company, and their court case is still pending.
