KUCHING: State Reform Party (STAR) has named Mura Kadir as its candidate in Tanjung Datu this coming state election pitting him against BN candidate Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Mura, 64, a former civil servant who had served various senior positions in the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, pledged to do his best to unseat Adenan.

Newly minted STAR president Lina Soo, who made the announcement yesterday, said they would be going all out and not making any u-turn this state election.

“The party is planning to contest in 30 seats ideally if we can raise enough fund,” Soo told a press conference at the party’s operation room in MJC new township here.

Mura, who is STAR deputy president, also took the opportunity to appeal for public donation to support his running in the state election.

Born in Kampong Panglima Seman Ulu in Kuching, Mura was active in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak, a former committee member of PKR Petra Jaya branch and had contested in Santubong parliamentary seat in the 13th General Election.

Following the announcement that Mura will contest in Tanjung Datu, STAR would now be contesting in three seats in Kuching region, the other two are Buln Ribos(Serembu) and Teo Kwang Kim(Padungan).

In the Sibu region, STAR has confirmed contesting in eight seats namely Bawang Assan(Wong Sing Wei); Dudong(Mary Ting); Moh Hiong Kiong in Bukit Assek, Priscilla Lau in Pelawan and Simon Tiong in Nangka.

STAR is expected to announce its full list of candidates today and reveal its election manifesto as well.
