SEMPORNA: A 40-year-old man was detained here on Tuesday after committing robbery in Lahad Datu.

District police chief Superintendent Peter Umbuas yesterday said the victim and his colleague were patrolling in their vehicle on Tuesday morning when they were informed of the robbery in Lahad Datu and the suspect escaping to Semporna in an Isuzu D-Max vehicle.

The policemen saw the vehicle at Km 40, Jalan Semporna-Kunak and ordered it to stop. One of the cops shot at the vehicle when it refused to stop and hit three of its tyres.

“It was later found abandoned at an estate with the driver missing,” he said.

Peter said police found a hockey stick and a wig in the D-Max, and seized a CNI branded bag, a black wallet, four handphones, a power bank, a note book, an IMM13 pass and two packets of syabu from the suspect.

“Police will investigate the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code,” Peter added.
