TAWAU: Three Indonesians, including two women passengers of a boat were detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) yesterday for not getting proper immigration clearance.

Tawau maritime enforcement chief Captain Anor Jaafar, said the local boat (jongkong) was spotted around 9.45am believed to be heading towards Sungai Pancang, Indonesia.

The boat, with a skipper and six passengers, three of whom were Indonesians and the rest Malaysians aged 49 to 70 years, were checked by the MMEA personnel and the three Indonesian passengers’ passports found without proper immigration clearance, he said.

The boat and the passengers were subsequently brought back to the MMEA jetty for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
