KUCHING: A sizeable number of police personnel from Bukit Aman Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism unit or D7 are stationed across the state to monitor election-related betting.

State CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said the federal D7 personnel were here to detect possible betting on the outcome of the election, and also keep a close eye on gangsterism-related activities.

“A sizeable number of officers and men from Bukit Aman D7 are here to assist us and look into this matter (election betting) and gangsterism-related activities,” he said when contacted by thesundaypost.

Regarding allegations on the ground that syndicates or certain individuals were trying to influence the outcome of the election in certain seats, Dev Kumar said such rumours should be treated as just that.

“There are talks in town about this so-called election betting, but they are unfounded rumours. We have not yet detected any activity related to election betting in any part of the state.”
