A motorcyclist nabbed during the operation being questioned by police.
KUCHING: Police seized 76 motorcycles and issued 140 summonses during a traffic operation targeting illegal street racers at the Masja area in Petra Jaya on Friday night.
District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the seven hourlong operation involved officers and personnel from the district and state Traffic Unit, Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit, Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) and Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
“In total, police inspected two cars and 102 motorcycles before seizing 76 machines of various models under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“We also issued 140 traffic summonses against two motorists and 138 motorcyclists for offences ranging from not possessing a licence, illegal exhaust modifications, non-compliant licence plates, and expired road tax,” he said when contacted yesterday.
