KUCHING: Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCGCCI) will be holding a briefing on ‘Business Licensing Electronic Support System’ (BLESS) at Boon Ping Hall, Level 4, Wisma Chinese Chambers at Jalan Bukit Mata Kuching here.

The briefing from 9am to 12pm this Saturday (July 23) will be conducted by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK).

As requested by KCGCCI, it will be in Mandarin for the benefit of Mandarin-speaking members and non-members.

KCGCCI Commerce Committee chairman Dr Christopher Ngui urged members to attend.

“This is the first time we are organising such a briefing. We hope members and non-members alike will grab this opportunity to learn more. This is especially for those having problems or are still not familiar with it,” he said at a press conference at Wisma Chinese Chambers yesterday.

KPDNKK deputy director Abdul Hafidz Abdul Rahim who was also present at the press conference explained that BLESS is a computerised system introduced on Sept 15 last year.

“The system offers the convenience of online processing of licence applications and renewals so people do not have to go to our office.

“About 70 per cent of businesses in the state are using it, and we hope more will start to use it.

“We will continue to work with KCGCCI to educate their veteran members about this system,” he said.

As it will be a hands-on briefing, participants are encouraged to bring their laptops to learn more about the online process.

Topics to be covered during the briefing include the introduction of KPDNKK and its roles; types of licenses issued by the ministry’s Domestic Trade Section; application and renewal of controlled items; and application of licence for trading in fuel.

The three-hour briefing will include a question-and-answer session.

All members and non-members are welcomed to attend the free briefing. Those interested may register with the Secretariat by calling 082-242577 or 082-235578 by July 21.
