SIBU: A 10-day Fiesta Sibu Jaya to celebrate the pioneering spirit of the 30,000 people of the booming township starts this evening.
According to a press release from Sibu Jaya developer Distrepark Sdn Bhd, Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce will officiate at the function at 8pm.
The event will feature a plethora of business activities, fun and entertainment.
Distrepark Sdn Bhd senior manager Eddy Puah said the event is timed to coincide with the school holiday and public holidays on Thursday and Friday.
“But above all, this event is meant as a celebration of the pioneering spirit of the people of Sibu Jaya who built a new life in this township,” he said.
With over 6,000 homes built, Sibu Jaya has become a vibrant township and a focal point for suburban folks from around central Sarawak.
The many shops that operate throughout the week indicates that weekends at Sibu Jaya does not end at 1pm, but stretches late into the afternoon as folks from surrounding townships and towns will throng Sibu Jaya for their weekend shopping.
“Our intention in hosting this event, with the support of our partners and also Sibu Rural District Council, is our way of bringing wholesome and fun activities, apart from business, to the people,” Puah added.
Residents in Sibu town have also been urged to take the opportunity to visit Sibu Jaya if they have not been to this township, which is a mere three-minute drive from Sibu Airport.
“Come and explore residential and commercial opportunities with us in Sibu Jaya. You will be amazed at how much this township has grown.
“In fact, with the implementation of the Masterplan for Sibu Jaya, the township has taken a quantum leap into the future,” he said.
Sibu Jaya is increasingly visible as a modern township with beautifully landscaped roads and public spaces, and as more government agencies take root, it is poised for its next quantum leap, Puah said.
