LONG SAN, Baram: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau says he salutes the sacrifice, commitment and dedication of teachers posted to the interior in serving the children and community.

“I salute and admire teachers for the sacrifices, commitment and dedication in teaching in the interior, which poses many challenges.

“Although having to travel a long and tiring journey along timber tracks, crossing rivers, hills and valleys which exposes you (teachers) to risks and dangers, you still come and teach in the interior area,” said Dennis.

He was speaking at the closing of the Primary School Sports Council (MSSR) Sports and Athletics Meets for Baram Zone (Upstream) hosted by SK St Pius here recently.

The closing ceremony, held at the mission primary school’s multi-purpose hall, saw St Pius lift the overall champion trophy.

The sports and athletics meet also serves to select Baram Upstream Zone representatives for MSSR to be held in Marudi next year.

Dennis said teachers who taught in the interior did so because of their love for the profession.

“Teachers in rural areas are also playing roles beyond their normal scope of duty and responsibility. The local community leaders would approach them to draft or write official letters.”

Present at the closing ceremony were chairman of Baram Upstream Zone Headmaster Council Sintan Lugat, St Pius headmaster Jackson Meli, and Long San village chief Lucia Paya.
