MIRI: PKR and DAP are cooperating again in Miri this general election, but whether the cooperation is enough to defeat the well-oiled BN election machinery to help PKR candidate Dr Michael Teo Yu Kheng win again against BN’s Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew will only be known on May 9.

Controversy arose when a DAP leader questioned Dr Teo’s candidacy, throwing a spanner in the works and forcing leaders of both parties to work things out to keep their challenge on track in retaining Miri for Pakatan Harapan (PH).

It took PKR Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How and DAP Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon to sort things out and call on all sides to support Dr Teo’s candidacy.

“We will go all out as it is important to contribute the seat to the bigger aim of forming a better federal government,” See said when met yesterday.

In the 2013 general election, Dr Teo garnered 29,909 votes to win against Ting, who obtained 24,917 votes, and STAR candidate Chong Kon Fatt who received only 306 votes.

Meanwhile, Dr Ting said the campaign in Miri had been gaining momentum in the past few days and believed there would be a build-up leading to this weekend when renowned speakers join the campaign.

Both See and Dr Ting agreed that social media had affected the size of crowds at political rallies in the city.

Both were met having breakfast at a coffee shop near the PKR election operations centre at Miri Waterfront Commercial Centre, together with Dr Teo, after their morning walkabout in the constituency.
