LAHAD DATU: The Civil Defense Force (APM) caught a 15-foot long crocodile weighing at least 500kg near the Sahabat 16 beach on Monday.

The crocodile was caught after members of public saw the reptile and made a distress call to APM.

Lahad Datu APM Operation and Public Relations Officer Badrul Baba said a team of APM was sent to the area upon receiving a distress call at 6.01pm.

He said the team, led by Sergeant Suhaili Ibrahim, later spotted the crocodile at the beach, believed to have eaten a dog at the nearby area.

The team managed to catch the crocodile about one hour later with the assistance of Felda Sahabat auxiliary police, he said.

“The operation ended at 9.30pm and the crocodile was handed to the District Wildlife Department at noon today,” he added.
