Man who claims trial to violating MCO out on bail

KUCHING: A man who pleaded not guilty to violating the movement control order (MCO) was released on bail by a Magistrates’ Court here yesterday.

Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy set May 13 for case management for Mustaza Samsuddin, 38.

He was later released on RM800 bail with two local sureties.

Mustaza is charged under Regulation 3 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Area) 2020, which is punishable under Regulation 11 (1).

Eight others pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Muhammad Zhai Suhaimi Abdullah @ Kuet Leong, 26, and Awang Abdul Hafiz Awang Seari, 30, were each fined RM700, while Azizul Abu, 36, was fined RM300.

Izat Saddam Sulaiman, Mohamad Noorfiqri Mahdi, Awang Hailemiham Awang Drahman, Haslina Sulaiman, and Alora Amban Jugah aged between 24 and 38, were each fined RM800.

Those who failed to pay the fine would be imprisoned for one week.

The court also set May 15 and 25 to hear the probation reports of four minors aged 15 to 20.

Arrest warrants were also issued for Lim Jin Hai, 56, and Mokhtar Majini, 33, who failed to show up in court.

The magistrate set May 14 for them to be brought back to court.

ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted while none of the accused were represented by counsel.
