KUCHING: A man was sentenced to 15 months in jail by the Sessions Court here yesterday for attacking his wife with a meat cleaver.
Gedion Nakup, 28, from Kampung Sadir, Jalan Puncak Borneo pleaded guilty before Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd @ Mohd Yusoff after the charge was read to him.
Gedion is led from the court following sentencing.
According to the facts of the case, the accused attacked his 27-year-old wife after she did not allow him to switch off a fan at their quarters at an industrial park here on July 3 at 1.30am.
The attack left her with injuries to her head.
Gedion was convicted under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years or fine or whipping, or both.
In mitigation, the accused said he regretted his action and promised not to repeat the offence, adding that he also had a child to care for.
DPP Danial Ilham Kamaruddin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
