KUCHING: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department seized alcoholic beverages worth more than RM530,000 from a lorry, which was intercepted at Jalan Kuching-Bau at 12.40pm on Jan 8.
Customs Sarawak director Herman Abdullah, in a statement yesterday, said the seized beverages could have been smuggled goods – an offence under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967.
“The lorry was intercepted by a Customs team, based on date from gathered intelligence,” said Herman.
The lorry and the driver were brought to the Customs enforcement office, where the vehicle was checked.
The 10-tonne lorry was completely covered with canvas to avoid detection by authorities.
