SIBU (June 10): The number of vaccines administered in Sibu is expected to increase starting tomorrow (Friday) with the arrival of 384,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines in Kuching yesterday.

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said arrangements had been made to set up more vaccination centres (PPV) here for this purpose.

“The new PPVs will speed up the vaccination process in Sibu,” he said during a Facebook Live streaming yesterday.

However, Dr Annuar did not elaborate further on the matter.

He urged those who have yet to register for Covid-19 vaccination to do so as soon as possible, especially the elderly and those with comorbidities.

He noted that there was still confusion among those in the high risk group on their eligibility to receive the vaccine.

“Recently I met a woman in her 70s at Kampung Jeriah. She has diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol.

“She said she is not eligible to receive the vaccine due to her comorbidities and this confusion had prevented her from registering for the vaccination programme.

“I explained to her that those with such comorbidities would get a severe Covid-19 infection if they are not vaccinated,” he said.

On food aid under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang 6.0 (BKSS 6.0), Dr Annuar urged anyone with information about deserving individuals or households who could have been left out of the assistance to inform the authorities or persons in-charge.

Dr Annuar said they can help to submit their names to the persons in charge of the aid in their respective areas.

He said for Nangka state constituency, the information can be submitted to any Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) sub-branches.

“In Nangka constituency, we have delivered from house to house a total of 4,967 food aid packets so far after the distribution started on Monday.

“A total of 250 workers were involved in packaging of the food items and delivering them to the doorsteps of the recipients,” he said.

For the food aid, those in Bukit Assek can contact Cr Joseph Chieng at 019-8867288, those in Pelawan can contact Michael Tiang political secretary to the Chief Minister at 012-8880500, while those in Dudong can contact Cr Jenny Ting at 012-8883585 and in Bawang Assan, Cr Tang at 019-8879800.
