KUCHING (Dec 22): A driver and his passenger were killed in an accident with another vehicle near Taman Duranda, Mile 19, Jalan Kuching-Serian around 12.20am today.
In a statement, Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu identified them as driver Jirino Mirut, 60, from Kampung Mundai, Jalan Padawan and passenger Lisa Mutong, 37, from Kampung Simpok, Jalan Padawan.
He said they were both pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sarawak General Hospital.
It is believed that Jirino’s car was making a right turn into Taman Duranda when it collided with a vehicle that was heading straight from Mile 15 Jalan Kuching-Serian towards Serian town.
“Inside the other vehicle were a 21-year-old male driver, who suffered a broken bone on his right thigh, and a 23-year-old male passenger,” said Alexson.
He added the injuries suffered by the 23-year-old had yet to be determined by police.
Both victims from Jalan Kuching-Serian are receiving treatment at Serian Hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
