KUCHING (May 18): Sri Aman Hospital 2 will have three additional specialities once it is fully operational, said Deputy Minister for Public Health and Housing Michael Tiang.

He said the specialities are general surgery, orthopaedics, and anaesthesiology, said

“Sri Aman Hospital 2 is already physically completed. Final inspection, testing and commissioning are being carried out.

“It is expected to be operational in August 2022,” he said when answering Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor during the question-and-answer session at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Tiang said the existing Sri Aman Hospital had been upgraded to a Minor Specialist Hospital since 2011.

Currently, Sri Aman Hospital has four specialities — internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as psychiatry.

He also said the hospital currently has 11 dialysis machines.

“The upcoming Sri Aman Hospital 2 will have an extra 16 dialysis machines.

“Therefore, the dialysis machines are sufficient to cater to the total number of dialysis patients in Sri Aman, including dialysis patients from Lingga constituency,” he said.

On plans to upgrade Lingga Health Clinic, Tiang said they include renovations of the physical structure of the building such as floor repairs and repainting, as well as upgrading the car park area.

“The renovation for Lingga Health Clinic was approved under Rolling Plan 2 of the 12th Malaysia Plan in 2022 and is expected for completion towards the end of 2022.

“Apart from that, there is a plan to replace the current Tanjung Bijat Health Clinic into Health Clinic Type 5 with quarters,” he said.

Both clinics are currently manned by two medical officers and provide basic medical services such as outpatient services, maternal and child services, as well as pharmacy services.
