KUCHING (May 24): Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) recently joined the state-level MYFutureJobs Career Carnival themed ‘Tiada Yang Terpinggir’ to attract more Sarawakian youths to work in the oil and gas sector.

Five Petronas contractors – Velesto Energy Berhad, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE), Petrotechnical Inspection Sdn Bhd, Poratha Corporation and Essem Corporation Sdn Bhd – participated in the event which drew more than 1,000 job seekers, said Petronas in a statement yesterday.

Held at Bintulu Civic Centre on May 18-19, the programme was a collaboration with Social Security Organisation (Socso) and Sarawak Labour Department, and was part of Petronas’ Group Project Delivery (GPD), Project Delivery and Technology (PD&T) initiatives under its ‘Project Resource Localisation’.

The programme was in support of the Sarawak government’s efforts to boost local talent participation in the oil and gas sector, especially in Petronas capital projects.

Petronas’ participation in the programme provided a platform for job seekers to connect with potential employers in the industry and fostered stronger collaboration within the ecosystem, ensuring continuous integrated efforts to achieve local talent development goals and to support the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.

The collaboration with the Sarawak government and leading industry partners demonstrated Petronas’ unwavering commitment to nurturing local talent.

This initiative was a key element of Petronas project delivery strategy to support Sarawak’s economic growth through the development of a skilled and competent workforce.
