SIBU (March 7): A neighbour’s quick action with a fire extinguisher helped prevent a potential house fire in Sibu Jaya on Thursday night.
In a statement, the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said its team rushed to the scene—just a kilometre away from the station—after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arrival, firefighters found thick smoke billowing from the kitchen area of a house.
An inspection revealed that the incident was caused by an unattended cooking pot over a burning stove.
“The homeowner was not present at the time of the incident. However, the quick action of a neighbor, who used a dry powder fire extinguisher, managed to put out the fire before our team arrived,” Bomba said.
Firefighters then carried out residual extinguishing work with a water hose to ensure the area was completely safe.
No casualties were reported, and after confirming the situation was under control, the operation was concluded.
