KOTA SAMARAHAN (Nov 10): More than RM3 billion has been allocated for the construction of government quarters across the state.
According to State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, the works are now at the preliminary stage including site identification, design and planning, with the implementation expected to kick off by the end of the year.
“The development will cover the entire state, including the smaller districts, to ensure that government servants in all these areas would have access to a comfortable and safe living environment,” he told reporters when met after the closing ceremony of Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) Resident and District Office (R&DO) Sports Carnival 2025 here yesterday.
Adding on, Mohamad Abu Bakar said the new quarters would carry a concept that was different from the previous development.
“Previously, government quarters were built as single detached units.
“Now, we are introducing the apartment concept.
“This is for our civil servants’ safety, and to provide them with more comfortable living so that they can focus better on their work, especially those posted to the rural areas,” he said.
Additionally, the State Secretary said the government was also looking into improving the district offices.
“Old district offices will be replaced or upgraded, to ensure that the staff would have proper facilities and a space more conducive to working,” he added.
Mohamad Abu Bakar pointed out that all these plans had been agreed upon under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), reflecting the state government’s continued commitment to the welfare and productivity of its public sector workforce.
