Uggah delivers his speech prior to performing the earth-breaking ceremony for the Ulu Tinjar road-paving project.
MIRI (Nov 10): The paving of Ulu Tinjar Road signifies Sarawak government’s dedication to improving rural infrastructure and enhancing the daily lives of residents in Pekan Lapok and Kampung Long Teran.
According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the project involves upgrading the 23km stretch to Public Works Department (JKR) R1 standard, construction of two concrete bridges, supporting works on the drainage, and also slope stabilisation.
“Once completed, this road will become the main artery connecting the rural communities with economic and social centres.
“It is not just a road, but a gateway for comprehensive development in the area.
“The works are scheduled for completion in 36 months, but I hope that they could be finished earlier, perhaps within 24 months, with close cooperation between the contractor and JKR Sarawak,” he said in his remarks for the project’s earth-breaking ceremony on Saturday.
Uggah said the project aligned with the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP)’s core objective of bridging the development gap between the urban and rural areas.
Adding on, he said the Sarawak government had allocated RM724 million for 23 development projects in Marudi: six completed projects worth RM258 million; three ongoing projects worth RM134 million; and 14 projects worth RM331 million still in contract preparation stage.
Also present at the earth-breaking ceremony were Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil; Baram MP Dato Anyi Ngau; and JKR Sarawak director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris.
