PENAMPANG (June 3): Police are tracking down all individuals involved in several fights said to have occurred at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) area during the recent Kaamatan Festival.
Several clips depicting the incidents have gone viral on social media.
Penampang deputy police chief DSP Erwansyah Abdul Basir said initial investigations indicated that the cause might have stemmed from disagreements among several individuals.
“Nevertheless, it was reported that none of the fights involved any used of weapons, and had been broken up by members of the public at the scene.
“Several individuals have been called to have their statements recorded to assist in the investigation.
“Police are currently conducting further investigations to identify all individuals involved, as well as to trace those who might have witnessed the incident,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Erwansyah said that video footages uploaded on social media were also being examined.
He advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the incident as it could affect police investigation and disrupt public order.
“Those with information about this incident are called to come forward to assist in the investigation by passing on information to any nearby police station,” he added.
