KAPIT: A total of 285 jobseekers registered with the Labour Department during its Job Placement and Training Programme here recently.

Labour Department Kapit senior assistant director Khusyairy Pangkas said from that figure, 124 jobseekers attended interviews for the various categories of positions on offer by nine employers.

“This programme recorded the highest number of STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) and diploma holders with 36 applicants, 11 university graduates, five with SKM (Malaysian Skills Certificate), and 72 SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) school leavers,” he said.

“Twelve applicants were successfully offered jobs during the programme. Kapit is not short of good human resources, who employers should take positively.”

He added that from the 66 registered here under the e-Kasih programme for the hardcore poor, only 37 attended the programme, with 28 opting for the Jana Pendapatan Individu (Japi) programme and two choosing the Placement and Training Programme (2PL).

Khusyairy said employers have two weeks to give feedback to the Labour Department pertaining to some of the interviewees under keep-in-view status.

The next Job Placement and Training Programme will be held on Dec 8.

Khusyairy called for more employers, particularly from Samalaju Industrial Park, oil and gas industry, oil palm sector, and wood-based industry as well as skills training centres to join the next programme.

“I wish all jobseekers from the rural community to turn up. Next year, the department will also organise more programmes in Song district to cater to our rural jobseekers,” he said.
